9'6" at the Bill Thorn Invitational in March. 12'6" at the sectional in May, and a place at the Georgia state meet by the end of the season. Every meet that spring was a first.

Easter weekend, Thomas A. Robinson Stadium, Nassau. 5.06m in front of a home crowd: a CARIFTA Games record, a Bahamas junior record, and the national record his father had held since 1987. A second straight Georgia state title followed, then silver at the NACAC U23 Championships in Costa Rica and bronze at the Pan American U20 Championships.

5.45m at the Samford Bulldog Open in February, a new indoor national record and the best mark by any NCAA freshman that season. A Southern Conference title two weeks later. Then Grenada: a third straight CARIFTA gold and a second Games record. In August, the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

February 7, UAB Vulcan Invitational, Birmingham. 5.53m (18'1¾"), the second-best mark in Samford history and a new national record. A second SoCon title in March. In July he cleared 5.50 at a summer meet, then transferred to Illinois for the Big Ten.
