What I stand for

An athlete is an avenue of a person. It isn't the person.

Everywhere else on this site I am being described. This page is me talking. The vault is what I am best at, not the whole of me. These are the ideas I train by and the path I have chosen.

"I'm not a coach. I'm worried about the health of the athlete to be able to do what you need to do."

I won't talk technique. That's your coach's job. What I work on is the part nobody asks about: the knees, the tendons, the rehab, the weak link that is holding the jump back. Not a general program. A specific problem, and the fix for it.

Agency

"I'm not trying to tell you how to live. I'm trying to tell you that you have options."

Go along with the program and you move at the rate of the program. I transferred twice, I fly home to compete for the Bahamas every Easter, and I am building a career around the sport instead of waiting for one after it. The plan after graduation is not to find a job. It is to make one.

Reps

"It needs to exist before it can be perfect."

Every bar I've ever cleared, I missed first. I keep the misses in. The failed attempts are the lesson. Capture the work. Don't manufacture it.

Lines I keep

Each of these came from a specific day. I write them down so I do not lose them.

  1. Every bar I've ever cleared, I missed it first.
  2. Chill doesn't mean slow down. It means stop and look.
  3. If you can't name the person who'd judge you, it doesn't apply to you.
  4. As soon as I detached my worth from the outcome, everything got easier.
  5. I'd rather fail at something I had the freedom to do authentically than succeed at something I didn't.
  6. Stay on it. Even on the weekends.
  7. The record stood for thirty-six years. I was seventeen when it fell.
The community

The room

A community for athletes who want what I actually do between meets: the knee and tendon work, the mental side, the daily reps. Not technique, which belongs to your coach. Not one program for everyone. If you are weak here, you do this. Access to me and to the other people in the room.

Opening soon. Until then, the door is my inbox.
